North Wales Library News URGENT NEWS! Unanticipated Library Closing, July 2nd through July 5th.
Due to electrical outages associated with the present construction at North Wales Elementary, the Library will be closed beginning Thursday, July 2nd. The library will reopen Monday, July 6th at 1 p.m. Any overdue fines resulting from this closure will be waived. We apologize for the short notice of this announcement. The Library has learned that other outages may be likely over the course of the summer months. However, the Library should have greater advance notification of future outages. Have a safe and happy Independence Day Weekend. Summer Reading Club 2009 - Be Creative @ Your Library
This year, Summer Reading Club will be held every Wednesday in July and August. Each Wednesday will be a Summer Reading Club Day. Readers can stop by the library anytime during library hours (10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.) to tell the library staff about the books they have read and receive their exciting reading awards! This year the schedule is flexible to meet the needs of more families. Parents can maintain records of their little readers online. Setup is easy, and online entry of reading lists saves a lot of time. Please visit at https://host8.evanced.info/northwales/sr/homepage.asp. If you need assistance setting up your online account, please call or stop by the Library any Wednesday during the program's duration. The following special programs will also be held:
North Wales Resident Issues Fundraising Challenge
A challenge has been issued for the North Wales Library fundraising drive. Robert Kulp, a borough resident, will match up to $20,000 in donations through July 31 to help fund the construction of the new facility at 322 Pennsylvania Avenue. The challenge encourages one-time contributions of $1,000 or three-year pledges of $500 over three years. However, all donations large and small are genuinely appreciated and will contribute in significant ways to the renovation of the new North Wales Library. To make a donation, please make checks payable to: North Wales Library, and mail to:North Wales Library 201 Summit Street North Wales, PA 19454 The Library appreciates the opportunity to serve the citizens of North Wales and its surrounding communities. With your assistance and continued support, we will provide expanded and improved programs and collections in our new facility beginning in January of 2010. Registration for this exciting, educational program begins Monday, May 4th. The subject is Chemistry. Course Dates: July 27-30. The course will be taught by a certified teacher to groups of 15 students in two age groups: children entering second and third grades (level I) and children entering fourth - sixth grades (Level II). The program will be held at North Wales Borough Hall, second floor. No fee. |

North Wales Library Receives Grant from National Endowment for the Humanities
As a 'Picturing America' Bookshelf selectee, North Wales Library receives a collection of books, programming materials, visual art, and other educational resources intended to help educators teach American history and culture through our nation's art and literature. If You Were a Penguin, a picture book by author and illustrator Wendell and Florence Minor for children ages 3 to 6, is Pennsylvania's One Book, Every Young Child 2009 selection.This brand new book lets children use their imaginations as they step inside a penguin's world. This entertaining and educational story provides children with fun facts about penguins and helps them identify the many different kinds of penguins found throughout the world. As a collaborating agency, North Wales Library supports early childhood literacy efforts and emphasizes the importance of reading early and often to children, as well as engaging them in conversation and other activities around books. North Wales Library Issuing New Library Cards We now have beautiful new library cards for children and adults: Upon your next visit to the library, we will be updating your information, and issuing new library cards in order to utilize our new computerized circulation system.
